Swords, daggers, casino chips, $600,000 in cash and kilos of meth and ketamine have been removed by police from properties in Carnegie, Box Hill, South Melbourne and Balwyn North.

Twenty-nine people were arrested during the searches, conducted between August and October by Clandestine Laboratory Squad detectives in concert with VIPER Taskforce officers and members of the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission.

Police say they also found illegal tobacco and vapes, five firearms, machetes and tasers.

They allege the 7kg of methylamphetamine was being trafficked between Victoria and Western Australia.

“Detectives uncovered a suspected illegal casino in Carnegie on Saturday, August 15, finding 15 people, including two staff members, allegedly playing illegal casino games,” police said.

“Police released those present but expect to charge them with knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime and being found in a place provided for unauthorised gambling.”

On Tuesday (October 20) detectives “executed a search warrant at a second suspected casino in Box Hill, where they allegedly found two staff members operating the venue”.

Police arrested a 43-year-old Chinese man and charged him with dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of crime and being found in a place provided for unauthorised gambling.

A 49-year-old Balwyn North man was also arrested and is expected to face the same charges.

Police allege an “organised crime syndicate” was operating illegal casinos in Box Hill and Carnegie.

A search of a Balwyn North property allegedly uncovered more cash and casino chips, four firearms, other weapons, illicit tobacco and drug-manufacturing equipment.

Police arrested a 45-year-old Balwyn North woman and expect to charge her with dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of crime and firearms offences.
