Ilza Japanese Café
170-180 Rooks Road, Nunawading
No morning should begin without caffeine.
For my daily fix, I headed down to Ilza Japanese Café, opting for an iced strawberry matcha for $9.30, one of their signature speciality drinks.
The matcha was full-bodied and truly authentic, pairing perfectly with the sweetness of the strawberry jam.
Regular lattes are on offer, too, for those less adventurous in taste, starting from $5.
This café is quaint and quiet in nature, ideal for a relaxing morning brew, but also offers some of the best Japanese sandwiches, dons and udons in the area.

Ms Banh Mi
17 Brentford Square, Forest Hill
With a pep in my step, I was ready to tackle lunch, and how could I go past the iconic Ms Banh Mi?
This bakery is packed every time I visit and for good reason. Their banh mis are some of the best in the eastern suburbs, never skimping on filling or flavour.
For just $11 you get the choice of juicy BBQ chicken or crispy roast pork. It’s a tough decision every time, but I opted for the pork, and crispy it was.
Ms Banh Mi has truly mastered the vegetable to meat ratio for the perfect bite every time. You are guaranteed to leave feeling satisfied and full.

Miss Lucy
133 Central Road, Nunawading
No meal is complete without a sweet treat to follow.
If your stomach is still grumbling, I recommend you try Miss Lucy: a small café tucked on the border between Nunawading and Blackburn, with both indoor and outdoor dining options.
If you’re visiting, you simply must get the brownie. It’s big enough for two, so best to bring a friend or take it home to share.
For $8.90 you receive the richest, gooiest, most decadent sweet treat that’s made fresh daily on-site. They also offer a range of other goodies like muffins, cakes and croissants if brownies aren’t to your taste.
As a bonus, Miss Lucy is right opposite Blackburn Lake Park, so if the weather permits you can go for a stroll after your meal.

Mr Robertson Cafe
Shop G01/31-39 Norcal Road, Nunawading
Mr Robertson Cafe’s menu covers a wide range of offerings, including pizzas, salads and other classic cafe fare.
Oedo Sushi Café
1 Market Street, Nunawading
Lovers of sushi on a budget can stop into Oedo for a bento box for around $16 or hand rolls for about $4 each.
