Robert Alan Sieben

Tired of hearing the power chords of classic rock bands hitting your eardrums over Gold FM or Triple M ad nauseum and keen for something a bit more country?

Hailing from Tennessee, the self-proclaimed “home of country music”, Robert Alan Sieben is bringing his unique steel guitar picking style and textured voice to The Railyard this Friday.

Support acts include Kyle Phillipson from Melbourne jangle country band Wild Dog Mountains and alt-country rock band Stonewilde.

Where: The Railyard, 3/1545 Burwood Highway, Tecoma

Estudiantina of Melbourne – A Night of Rebetika

Blending Greek, Turkish, Jewish and Armenian influences, Estudiantina of Melbourne is honouring the legends of Rebetiko - a genre often referred to as the “Greek blues” - Vassilis Tsitsanis, Sotiria Bellou, Rita Abadzi, Kostas Roukounas and more.

Limited table seating is available, so jump online before you miss out!

Concert A Capella

Is your go-to playlist full of barbershop quartets, gospel singers or folk singers? Then the Victorian Folk Music Club’s September concert might be right up your alley.

Three separate a capella groups - Gorani, Both Sides of the River and VoiceBox will take to the stage to sing a range of songs, from traditional Georgian tunes to interpretations of the Beach Boys and Queen songs.

Lovers of the Coodabeen Champions shouldn’t miss the chance to catch one of the members perform their biggest hits - from Stuck in Waverley Car Park to The Thing About Football.

When: Thursday September 18, 7.30pm to 10pm

Where: Oakleigh Music Hall, 95 - 97 Drummond Street, Oakleigh

Cost: $45

Richard Clapton

While I’ve never seen Richard Clapton live, at the age of 77 and one of Australia’s rock legends, this will be a show you shouldn’t miss.

Still sporting his iconic mop and sunnies - which seem to be permanently affixed to his face - his voice has gotten even smoother with age.

Catch the classics like “Girls on the Avenue” and “I Am an Island” as well as his soulful tunes like “Deep Water” and “Capricorn Dancer”.

When: Friday September 19, 7.30pm to 9.30pm

Where: Karralyka Centre, 22A Mines Road, Ringwood East

Cost: $79

Peter Bibby

If you like your Australian songs dripping in excess amounts of self-awareness, tongue-in-cheek humour and an ironic Okka drawl, then you need to catch a Peter Bibby gig.

With one of his songs - “Terracotta Brick” - coming from the perspective of a heartbroken brickie and another romanticising the XF Falcon - Red XF Falcon -  he is a true Perth punk poet.

When: Thursday September 25, 7pm

Where: Sooki Lounge, 1648 Burwood Highway, Belgrave

Cost: $30.60
