While You’re Young

While You’re Young is a one-day showcase of young local bands and artists.

After being recently featured on ABC’s show “The Piano”, singer-songwriter John Yanko will show off his skills as a multi-instrumentalist and lyricist.

Other bands include surf rock band The Defibs, electric funk/rock outfit The Dropkicks and Belgrave alternative rock band Chasing Planes.

When: Saturday July 5 from 5pm

Cooling Tower, Death of Nexus and Gangrene Dream

This late night show is bound to get a little sweaty while the outside air gets chilly, with these local rock bands set to rock into the early hours of the morning.

Where: The Belgrave Hotel, 1645 Burwood Highway, Belgrave

Kate Ceberano

A true powerhouse of Australia’s music community, Kate Ceberano is taking audiences on a journey back through the hits which have made up her own career and the best Australian songs as part of her “Australian Made” tour.

She will perform her own special takes on classics from Silverchair, the Church, Bernard Fanning, John Farnham, The Models and Divinyls.

When: Thursday July 10, 7pm to 9.20pm

Where: Karralyka Centre, 22A Mines Road, Ringwood East

Conrad Sewell

Marking the 10th anniversary of Conrad Sewell’s star-making feature on Kygo’s song “Firestone”, he is taking his unique voice and intimate performance style to regional audiences across the country.

When and Where: Saturday July 5 from 8pm at the Village Green Hotel, corner of Springvale Road and Ferntree Gully Road, Mulgrave

Friday July 18 from 8pm at York on Lilydale, 138 York Road, Lilydale

Ganga Giri and Charlie Needs Braces

Unlike your typical gig, this event is actively encouraging audiences to get up and dance along to two high-energy artists.

Port Fairy artist Ganga Giri is renowned for his use of the didgeridoo in a dance music context, creating lengthy and jammy soundscapes.

Charlie Needs Braces is a duo consisting of Guringai woman Charlie Woods and her sister Miri, as they create looping tunes with a connection to Country.

When: Saturday July 26 from 7pm

Where: Burrinja Cultural Centre, 351 Glenfern Rd, Upwey

Katie Noonan

Since coming onto the Australian music scene in 2002, Katie Noonan has made a name as one of the country’s best singer-songwriters.

Ahead of her national tour of a tribute to Jeff Buckley’s album Grace, she is performing at these intimate shows in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, including a selection of some of her own most loved songs, some of her favourite songs by other people and a little taste of brand-new material.

When and Where: Friday July 25 at Sooki Lounge, 1648 Burwood Highway, Belgrave and Saturday July 26 at

The Suburban’s Live Music Sessions

Sit back with a drink and enjoy the tunes as the sun sets during June’s live music sessions.

This month kicks off with Emile Battou on Friday July 4 from 8pm to 11pm and Keanu Jai on Sunday July 6 from 4pm to 7pm.

When: Every Friday from 8pm to 11pm and Sunday from 4pm to 7pm

Where: The Suburban Rooftop and Dining, Eastland Shopping Centre’s Town Square

Live Music Sunday Sessions at The Grand Hotel in Warrandyte

Every Sunday from 3pm to 6pm, the Grand Hotel in Warrandyte showcases local talent, with Dan Vogl kicking off the month on Sunday July 6, followed by Chantelle and Jon, Gary Eastwood, and Alex and Nat Duo.
