Where to get gluten-free donuts in Melbourne's eastern suburbs to mark World Donut Day

Here’s our guide to where you can grab a sugary treat without the worry.

World Donut Day is on Friday June 6. So what do you do if you want some doughnut action but have specific dietary requirements? Here are some sweet spots in Melbourne’s east that fit the bill.

How did World Donut Day start?

World Donut Day started in America after the Salvation Army had volunteers bake and serve doughnuts to soldiers in France during World War I. The so-called “Donut Girls” often used spare equipment to help bake the sweet treats, including using empty wine bottles as rolling pins and tin cans as cutters.

The first Donut Day in the US was on June 7, 1938.
