Four things we learned about Menzies MP Gabriel Ng’s plans to deliver for eastern Melburnians
We spoke to the first-ever Labor member for Menzies about his plans for the term ahead.

The Eastern Melburnian recently sat down with Menzies MP Gabriel Ng to have a chat about how his first few months in Parliament have stood up to his expectations – and see what he hopes to achieve for Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
Growing up in Doncaster, he currently lives in the area with his wife and two children.
Ng has previously worked as a lawyer and a public servant and has volunteered at community legal centres.
Eastern Melburnian: What issues are people in Menzies facing?
Gabriel Ng: I think people are concerned about accessible healthcare, making sure that the schools are well funded and that they've got the facilities that they need. People worry about what their kids' futures are going to look like, whether or not they're gonna be able to afford houses, climate change.
How is the Federal Government tackling climate change?
One of the major ways that we're addressing climate change is with the renewable energy transition. We've also legislated our climate change target for both 2030 and then net zero by 2050.
What other issues are you passionate about?
I think we need to be working towards a mental health system where mental health is treated the same as physical health and we're still quite a long way from that. One of the other election commitments that we have is a Medicare mental health clinic down in Box Hill. I'll be excited to see that open up and bring the community along there.
How hopeful are you about Australia’s future identity?
To be honest, I'm pretty optimistic about Australia's identity. I think we have a really well-functioning democracy. While there are people on the fringes who sometimes try to divide us, on the whole, I'm really optimistic.
