Word on the Street: Is it possible for young people to afford a house?

We've been speaking with people across Melbourne's eastern suburbs about what issues they are currently facing.

We’ve been hitting the pavement recently as part of our ongoing work to hear what locals think about the issues impacting them most — and what political parties, MPs and candidates should be doing about them.

Our contributor Joey Robertson visited Oakleigh recently to talk with locals, with our newest interview now live.

One of the young men interviewed said he did not think either of the major parties would help him be able to afford to buy a house.

“I think it’s a major worry for anyone my age,” he said.

A young woman told us she hoped to be able to buy an acre out in the country one day, but she was worried if she would be able to afford it.
